Pioneer adds Bluetooth and iPod® connectivity to Europe's most powerful integrated Navigation and Entertainment System

The first fully integrated communications, navigation and entertainment centre:
the ‘ AVIC-X1BT ' offers Bluetooth hands-free phone management, covers 26 countries, calls on real-time traffic analysis to avoid congestion, extends Pioneer's unique highly detailed City Maps feature to include 48 cities and delivers a high-quality entertainment experience with iPod compatibility.

Bluetooth adds extensive phone management features to the entertainment and navigation capabilities that have made Pioneer's AVIC series Europe's best-selling map-type navigation system. And it's a feature that sure to be widely used: it was the most requested enhancement when over 1,000 users of Pioneer's car navigation range were questioned about the development of the AVIC series.

Users of the AVIC-X1BT can leave the mobile handset anywhere in the car (there's no need for an unsightly cradle) and control it via the intuitive touch-panel display of a standard keypad. It also supports memory dialling and full phone book access. Synchronising the phone is simple and, once set up, the handset is recognised when in range of the unit. And as the car's speakers can be used to relay the driver's voice, call quality is enhanced over standard hands-free kits.

Powerful navigation capabilities are extended in the AVIC-X1BT ; 3-D gyroscope and speed pulse detectors harnessed with the core GPS system, ensure precision positioning even in areas where there is little or no GPS reception (tunnels and urban corridors). Route guidance is fast and accurate, trouble spots are avoided in journey planning, the system will quickly plan a new route when a wrong turning is taken and congestion-charge areas can be bypassed. The driver can also select from six different on-screen viewing options to visualise the road ahead. The database has been significantly enhanced: 17 new cities are mapped in detail with Pioneer CityMaps which include road widths, accurately scaled buildings and local features such as parks and rivers; over 200,000 extra points of interest are included and three new countries are covered – Poland, Hungary and Slovakia.

Entertainment is advanced by full iPod compatibility (through Pioneer's optional CDIB100 iPod adaptor). An on-screen interface replicates closely the functions of the iPod menu and intuitive search capabilities are available by genre, song, album, playlist and artist, while play functions cover repeat, shuffle and pause. The feature extends the entertainment options of the AVIC-X1BT that also include CD-playback of MP3 tracks, DVD-Video and AM/FM Tuner complemented by high-quality audio from Pioneer's renowned MOSFET 50 amplifier. As with previous models, the system can multitask – when a route is set, the driver can view the navigation data, while the radio/CD is available to the driver and front-seat passenger and a DVD (with headphones) can be watched by the rear-seat occupants.

Design and control
The AVIC-X1BT fits into the standard DIN radio slot and its attractive motorised touch-panel display folds into the dashboard to appear as a radio unit whenever the car is unattended. The unit is controlled from the intuitive touch screen and, as with previous models, voice commands are available to control the system's main operations – an important safety consideration.
